The Beast in Him

Sixteen years ago Jessica Ward is heart broken when Bobby Ray Smith leaves town to join the Navy. This was not something that he wanted to do, but he knew that he had to do this in order to get out of the town in which he grew up. There were too many Smith males, and he didn’t want to fight for all of his life so getting out was best for him. Now he has joined up with a partner, and they have their own security firm. One of the first places where they offer security to is a live party of wild dogs, and Bobby is absolutely floored when he discovers that the party has Jessie Ann Ward as the Alpha of this group. The funny thing is that the girl who had such a crush on him in high school can barely remember his name now, can’t remember the military force that he joined when he left town and then does the most horrible thing, considering that everybody in that town knew that him and his daddy didn’t get along well, she calls him by his daddy’s name. Bobby intends to find out why she is doing it, and then he intends to do what he wanted to do in high school which was to find out just how hot things could get between a wolf and a wild dog.

All of the females in the town hated Jessie because she was a wild dog and not a wolf, but Bobby was a great guy to her and always took up for her and treated her with respect. Now Jessie is the Alpha of her pack and just can’t resist the urge to tease Bobby. She just couldn’t resist the urge to show him just how far she had come since he had deserted her all of those years ago. She had thought that the meeting would be enough to satisfying her seeing him again, but she didn’t count on him wanting to see her again. Can she handle the attraction building between them again or will she be like Bobby and see where it can lead?

Shelly Laurenston is one of my all time favorite authors. She is the only author that I know that can bring wolves, lions, and dogs and sometimes even bears together and make them “human”. The main thing about this story that brought it together for me was the fact that it brings ALL of the former packs together, and they interact with such intensity that you don’t want the story to end. The second thing that I loved was the fact that it brought a high school couple together after years apart and showed them that they had changed but had still kept the same passion for each other that they had in school. If you’re a fan of Ms. Laurenston then you need to read this book because it continues the stories and sets up another one that will be on the way at a later time that you do NOT want to miss.
