Dead Man’s Rain
Mama Hog approaches Markhat and tells him that she has found someone that requires his help. Widow Merlat has a problem. Her husband, Ebed has been causing havoc recently by appearing at night near their home. This may not seem like much but Ebed has been dead for two years. Markhat agrees to assist Widow Merlat even though he does not believe that the person Widow Merlat is seeing at nights is her husband, Ebed. Mama Hog warns Markhat that the three adult Merlat children are evil. Markhat first suspects that the Merlat children are playing a trick on their mother in order to get a bigger part of the inheritance but upon further review Markhat may have to admit that Ebed really is back. Nothing good comes from a Dead Man’s Rain.
Markhat had a great personality about him. He may not always want to believe in the supernatural even if it is right in front of his face but at the same time he does not back down from things either. I really enjoyed Mama Hog. She had this charm about her that you just couldn’t resist even if Markhat thought Mama Hog could be bothersome at times. This was my first Frank Tuttle book. I thought that Dead Man’s Rain was a good quick read. I only wished it had lasted a little longer. Dead Man’s Rain seemed realistic which is a good factor when a book makes you feel like this could really happen. Don’t let your chances wash away without checking out Dead Man’s Rain.
