High Risk

Beth Walsh has the ideal life. The stay-at-home wife doesn’t have to work because loving husband, Mark, works as a divorce lawyer and brings in enough income to let her live a comfortable lifestyle. After four years, Beth feels like no matter what all Mark does for her, something is missing. She loves Mark but doesn’t feel like he really pays enough attention to her. He never notices her the way her anonymous lovers do. She is addicted to the passion and thrill of being with another man who spends every single minute paying her complete attention. Abbott Lowery is a man of mystery, a handsome hunk. He grew up with a mother who would go out and lock him in the cottage only to return in a drunken stupor with a man on her arm. The memories are often painful, and then he meets Beth, who sticks to him like glue. Abbott is not really into the likes of Beth, but she refuses to give it a rest. When she continues to try to urge him to go with her, he decides to play her game with rules of his own. Perhaps he should inform Mark about the activities of his wife, which doesn’t sit too well with Beth. She can’t afford to lose Mark. Beth tries everything to keep Abbott silent. She has seen the error of her ways, but something tells her that is not enough for Abbott, who is bent on destruction.

Even though I do not care much for any spouse cheating, High Risk sends a loud-ringing message. Not only was it intense, but electrifying to say the least. It grabbed me immediately, and I found it hard to put down. Rick R. Reed sketches a cast so powerful and developed, everything practically seems real. The dialogue is excellent and the way he paints the expressions of Beth, Mark and Abbott often bring on spine-tingling sensations. Wow, this is one dynamic read! The plot is terrific, and the creation of Abbott is like a high-power adrenaline rush. It only goes to show sometimes the handsome ones are not what women expect. This read leaves such an impression, I will probably still be thinking about it months down the road. An awesome story, Mr. Reed!
