Jackson's Pride
Jackson is a mercenary by trade and a bastard son by birth. He is a man without a family name, but carries more honor and discipline than some men of more sound status. He sets out to rescue a man who has been left to die on a cold winter’s night for the crime of sodomy. But the person who is really saved is Jackson – saved from living a lonely and loveless life.
Will’s only crime is poor timing. Yes he prefers the company of men, but his painful past won’t allow him to take what is not freely given. Will looked into the eyes of his rescuer and instantaneously fell in love.
There is a thread that connects these men. A bond that is too strong to allow their love to falter or fail. Jackson and Will’s initial rolls will soon reverse, when Jackson finally comes face to face with the man who fathered him and the brother he never knew.
Jackson’s Pride is the second book in the Company of Men series. Jackson is a fair man, born without the luxury of land and a title; and he has grown into a man of honor and integrity. Will was born with the privilege of having a father who loves him dearly, and a brother who accepts his love of men. Watching Jackson’s defenses drop and love overtake the giant was like watching a soft wind knock down an oak tree. You know it shouldn’t be possible, but it’s hard to deny the truth. The interaction between the men was breathtaking. Jackson’s pride and Will’s stubbornness were both obstacles getting in the way of their relationship. But eventually they accepted they were destined to be together. Lynn Lorenz has created a wonderful series. The characters are engaging and the setting written to surround you in the time period. I fell in love with Jackson in the first book, and had hoped he would find love. I’m not sure if there are more stories slotted for this series but I’m truly hoping this is just the beginning. Jackson’s Pride is filled with strong characters, a sound plot, and touches of humor, passion, romance, danger, and action. It is written like every great sequel should be written. Jackson’s Pride will fascinate, enthrall, and finally overwhelm the reader and have you begging for more.
