Serenity
Melchior has lived for over three hundred years. He is the King of the Bhresyas and is ready for a peaceful existence to be forged between his kind and the humans. But because of the treacherousness of humans, Melchior believes a royal example is required to speed things along. He proposes one last peace treaty that will link the two people through marriage.
Serenity is the Queen’s only daughter and future wife to Melchior. Some would call this a duty that she is expected to fulfill. To Serenity, who has spent her entire life preparing, this is the opportunity to be with the man her heart has already come to love. While others flee and scream when they see a bhresya, Serenity embraces them only seeing them as beautiful. Now if only Melchior could learn to see the true beauty of Serenity before it is lost to him forever.
Serenity is a Gezane Universe novel.
I was pulled into this story from the first page. The characters, no matter their physical appearance, were written to be believable in other aspects. Caring, strong, determined and fearless seem to be the words that come to mind. Serenity was definitely her namesake, serene and tranquility personified, until you touched the one nerve that could transform her into cold and calculating. This transformation didn’t happen often, but always spelled bloodshed being left in its wake. Melchior made me want to put him over my knee. Never have I seen a man run from something he wanted so hard. Of all the supporting characters I would have to say Chigaru stole my heart. Fierce, determined and handsome, he went through so much that I believe he deserves a bit of love of his own. Serenity doesn’t hold back any punches. D. Renee Bagby distributed action, suspense, humor and romance throughout the tale that kept me entertained for hours. And while the love making between Serenity and Melchior runs from sweet to spicy, it’s not the focal point of the story which makes it just that much better when it comes. Serenity is definitely a book I plan to read again just for the simple pleasure of it.
