Chaos Magic

Chaos Magic just about blew me away. After this story, I not only believed in magic, I began to wonder about all those little Gods many other religions discuss. Could there be a God of Traffic? Sam, our hero, certainly believes there is. He knows them, prays to them and has them watching over him. Unfortunately, Sam’s ex is also one, Marcus, the God of Fear with a terrifying habit of stalking Sam.

Like his name suggests, Marcus is scary. I shuddered with Sam every time he popped up or whispered through Sam’s mind. Marcus and Sam’s situation is a real one, unfortunately and scary, yet Lygon adds in how twisted magic can make the situation, how much more terrifying.

And then there’s Hector Garza. And in my opinion, though the story is told in Sam’s view, Hector almost stole the show. Hector was human where Sam just might not be, he is perfect for Sam yet flawed the way a good hero should be. I saw him as Sam saw him and was amazed by Lygon’s ability to pull me in so perfectly.

I cried with Sam, hurt and watched him slowly bloom under Hector’s care. They live in the Dominant/submissive life, and Lygon shows in both graphical yet flowing scenes just what that world really is about. Feisty but damaged Sam and strong, silent Hector both grow as trust and lust wrap around them. Jay Lygon creates a tale that left me awed. Tangible, cluttered, real emotions, complex characters and no small amount of sexual tension kept me glued to the monitor until the very end.
