One Good Man
Running from a murderer out to silence the only witness to his crime, Casey travels to her family’s cabin. Caught on the back roads by a flat tire, she accepts the help of a dashing young Marine. Offering him a ride is the least she can do. As she drives, he talks, telling her all about his brother. But when Casey crashes her car into a fallen tree she wakes to find her passenger gone and her rescuer is none other than the brother she’s heard so much about. Grant is a man wounded emotionally as well as physically. Consumed by grief he’s locked himself away in an isolated cabin, hiding from everything but the guilt he feels over his brother’s death. When he stumbles across Casey she’s the last thing he needs, but a snowstorm and downed power lines prevent him for turning her away. When passion ignites will they be able to overcome each of their obstacles to be together?
Lacey Thorn and Cindy Spencer Pape have joined forces to bring us One Good Man. From the first page I connected with Casey. She’s strong and independent, not afraid of life. Used to getting into tight spots, she’s left floundering when she finds herself in the tightest spot of all; the target of a killer. Catching a murder on camera throws Casey into the fight of her life, but after contacting the police her apartment is trashed and she realizes she can’t trust anyone to keep her safe. Escaping to a secluded cabin that no one knows about seems the perfect answer. Helped along the way by a handsome Marine, it’s not until she meets Grant that she discovers she couldn’t have seen him, never mind been helped by him. He’s been dead for almost a year. Grant is scarred both inside and out, with plenty of reasons to be suspicious of Casey; but his gut tells him she’s not lying no matter what his mind says. Throw in some seriously hot chemistry and that snowy cold countryside just melts—there’s no chance of these two getting cold when they’re together. With a killer determined to silence Casey forever, Grant’s disbelief and mistrust of Casey’s story about his brother fights against his need to protect her and the connection growing between them. The suspense of the killer out to get Casey has you chewing your nail, and the sexual tension has you squirming in your seat. One Good Man is one good book.
