Damien
Syreena has been at her sister’s side as her advisor through amazing times. An enormous compendium of Nightwalker information has been found, a library that has brought together the six races. Siena, as queen of the lycanthropes, has enlisted Syreena to assist in keeping the peace they’ve all been enjoying and requested that she mine the information for anything that may help with the guerilla warfare that a rogue Demon, Ruth, has been employing against all of the Nightwalker races. As a dual-natured lycanthrope and a trained Monk of the Pride, Syreena is unique amongst a people that prize their anomalies, but she’s struggled with trying to find herself amongst the labels she’s been given. Strangely enough it takes another to show her that she needs to find out what she wants in order to become wholly herself.
Damien is the Prince of the Vampires and an almost one thousand-year-old force to be reckoned with. When he finds out about the library he believes that it can help his companion, Jasmine, fight her ennui and possibly shed some light on a few things. Little does he know that his actions will bring him into Syreena’s sphere once again. He has a strange reaction to the shape-shifter and is anything but bored around her. To be intrigued is the best form of foreplay to a vampire.
These two very strong-willed individuals are thrown together through Ruth’s treachery and forced to face centuries-old taboos in order to survive.
The fourth installment of the Nightwalker series is an absolute treat. Each book has dealt with a core group of people and beings that has been expanded book by book. As with the other books in this series, Damien has a unique feel and ‘flavor’ to it. The interaction between Damien and Syreena was very realistic to their distinct personalities, through quite a few hardships their true selves remained. We were granted a closer look into the Mistral society and teased with hints of the Shadowdwellers. Jacquelyn Frank has become very, very good at teasing her readers with nuggets of information. I have been very impressed with the originality of this series and continue to be wowed by Ms. Frank’s way of changing the tone to each book yet keeping the main story arc consistent. I must say that I cannot wait to see what happens next.
