Skin Deep

Jake Volmer knows what his ideal woman is, but when his ex-lover and current sister-in-law, Lea sets him up on a blind date with a friend from work, Jake thinks that they are in cahoots to prove how fickle Jake is when it comes to women. Jake decides that he would prove them both wrong. Gabrielle “Bree” Williams knew at first sight that she was not the type of woman that Jake spent his time with. But why is he doing things out of character - sending her flowers, calling, and wanting to spend time with her if she isn’t his type?

Ms. Lee has the recipe for making incredibly erotic and tantalizing novels that women can relate to. Skin Deep was no exception. Right from the beginning, I was drawn into Bree’s corner. I agree with Bree that there were times that Jake should have been slapped into some future month for his behavior. Bree seemed to be like most women, not comfortable with their own body and thinking that no one else could be interested in her as a sexual being. Jake seemed very shallow in the beginning. He grew on me after Bree put the “normal girl whammy” on him. Jake’s acceptance of Bree’s body was the turning point for me. The secondary characters were a strong group of women who in each of their own way shaped Jake’s attitude towards women. Lea taught him how conniving and deceitful some women could be. Jessi taught him compassion, patience, and forgiveness. And Jake’s mom taught him that beauty was only Skin Deep. I cannot tell you how many times I caught myself smiling like the Cheshire Cat while reading this book. I suggest adding it to your Summer To Be Bought List quickly.
