The Counterfeit Countess

Eight years ago, Rosalind married Thomas, Earl Surby quietly while both were in Paris. Thomas, killed five months later in a riot, never informed his family of Rosalind's presence. Now, Rosalind has returned to London, a wealthy heiress, wishing to be acknowledged by Thomas' family. She plans to marry again and this would improve her prospects. The problem is… she has no proof she married Thomas. His wedding ring and their marriage certificate perished with him.

Francis, the new Earl Surby, doesn't believe the charming widow's story. She shows up on his doorstep with no proof, a sob story, and big green eyes, demanding cash and title. He won't let her get away with it. This bored noble plans to block her entrance to society, regardless of how amusing and entertaining she is.

A great romance novel makes readers laugh or cry. The Counterfeit Countess did both. Francis and Rosalind spark. They not only make each other laugh but they made me laugh also. But when they fight, wow, do they fight. There was one moment when all appeared lost and I cried for our brave heroine. This is an exceptional Regency tale with two characters I could not get enough of.
