Gillian Caruthers is one of four sisters with a huge responsibility. They are known as the Guardian Keys; they each have great power and protect the different portals of several different worlds from evil forces passing through to earth. Gillian and her sisters are all very well known heiresses that were born to privilege, wealth, and beauty and are hounded by the paparazzi at every turn because of this.

Gillian is known as the Assassin in the other world. She prefers her sword to any gun and can slice a demons head off just as fast. All of a sudden it seems like she’s being called to extinguish demons right and left. When she calls on the demon king Arath for help, she realizes there’s more to him than just a title. He’s sexy and mysterious and it appears that his lineage is in question. He has powers that no one has ever seen in a demon king and has Gillian scratching her head and trying to control her hormones every time she meets with him. With all of the various dimensions under attack, her brother being abducted by the group responsible, her attraction and wonder over king Arath and worry about her dream attacker, Gillian is lucky she’s still functioning!

The Demon King and I by Candace Havens is by far one of the best novels I’ve ever had the pleasure of picking up. Ms. Havens never ceases to amaze me with her talented writing and ability to make you feel like you are a part of the story. I’ve been a huge fan of hers ever since I read her first novel. The romance between Gillian and king Arath had me excited, frustrated, and wishing for my own sexy demon king all at the same time! The sparks that fly between the two of them will have the readers shaking with desire for them to find a way to be together. With all of the attacking from other world demons going on, it’s amazing they have time to even be attracted to each other. Somehow Ms. Havens manages to pull off a beautiful romance and a very engaging story all in one novel. I found myself wishing there were more pages to read! I look forward to reading the stories of the other three sisters and cross my fingers that she includes their brother Bailey in the series!
