Where There’s a Will
Chloe Sullivan is dead tired and can’t wait for her uncle’s lawyer to pick her up at the airport. She was overwhelmed by the news that she had inherited a castle in Scotland but couldn’t wait to see it. Instead of the lawyer picking her up, she is met by a very comely gentleman by the name of Malcolm MacTavish. The lawyer has come down with the flu, and by the time they reach her uncle’s hometown, Chloe is very glad that she did because she is already half in love with Scotland and is coming to like Malcolm very much. It doesn’t take long before Malcolm is feeling the same way about Chloe, but she has discovered a slight problem with her inheriting the castle. It seems that in order for her to inherit it she must marry a Scottish man within thirty days. As much as she likes Malcolm she has no intention of marring a man that quickly after meeting him. The only other option that she has is to stay in town for thirty days and then someone local can buy the land. Otherwise it will go up for sale to anybody, and she doesn’t want someone to come in and put up a big resort hotel. She doesn’t worry about falling in love with Malcolm knowing that she would only be in town for a couple of days. Her heart might feel differently after spending thirty days with him, especially after she sees him in his kilt.
Malcolm likes Chloe very much after spending several weeks with her. Listening to her talk he realizes that she has fallen in love with the country, and he wonders what her answer would be if he asked her to marry him. He had a very bad relationship once before because the woman lied to him. He knows that Chloe would never stoop to lying to him, and he knows that his heart would be safe with her. If he found out that she had lied to him about something, would it change his feelings for her? Unfortunately for Chloe it does.
I loved this book right from the very beginning. I loved the castles and getting to fall in love with Scotland. The author describes everything just like she was standing and looking at it, and it really made the scenery come alive in this book. The characters fit into the scenery very well also, and I also fell in love with them. Normally I like characters that have a background together, but this one really struck a cord with me in the innocence of the two of them. I think it was an American falling in love with the Scottish man, but it was like two teenagers finding love for the first time. Pick up this book and enjoy the highlands of Scotland and fall in love yourself with two of the best characters that I’ve met in a while.
