An Itch to Scratch
Deke is a werewolf with a problem. He has a habit that is almost an addiction, he loves to be bitten by vampires. When he realizes that he needs a safe outlet to feed his need he seeks the help of Jonny, the proprietor of the club Bloodrose. Jonny has just the vampire in mind to perfectly meet Deke’s needs. Kasey is an older vampire who has very rigid control over himself. But Jonny just knows that if he can get Kasey to see Deke the two will each be exactly what the other needs.
An Itch to Scratch is a prequel to the short story The Werewolf Code also by Julia Talbot. While both can be read alone they should be read in order for a more fulfilling reading experience. I can honestly say that when I read The Werewolf Code I was a bit disappointed in the story. But, I can happily report that An Itch to Scratch makes me one very happy reader. All the issues I voiced in my review of The Werewolf Code were rectified here. The relationship between Kasey and Deke is just beginning and the readers are given an insight into how it all came about, through their getting to know each other and how they came to be working together, ending where The Werewolf Codebegins. I had a much better understanding of Kasey this time around and found that I enjoyed their interactions much more. I enjoyed An Itch to Scratch I even went back and read The Werewolf Code and found that I enjoyed it a whole lot more since I now know the background story. Things that bothered me before made much more sense with the information given in An Itch to Scratch. Thanks go to Ms. Talbot for satisfying this fan’s curiosity!
