Faith & Fidelity

Vice Detective Evan Cerelli has lost the love of his life. As he and his children struggle to come to grips with the loss of the center of their world Evan finds himself slowly falling apart. It’s not until he strikes up a friendship with former Homicide Detective Matt Haight, a man on the edge of a midlife crises, an unrepentant ladies man, that things begin to look up for him. After nights of drinking away their sorrows turns into daytime conversations, each pouring out their troubles, the bonds of friendship begin to turn into something more. Something that both men, straight as can be, have trouble understanding, but love is a rare and precious gift, and can the men overcome the obstacles in their paths and be there for each other in more than friendship? Or will the troubles that surround them destroy their fragile love?

Tere Michaels is a new to me author. As a matter of fact, I almost didn’t pick Faith & Fidelity to review because I had heard nothing about the author. I can’t tell you how glad I am that I went with my gut on this one. First, let me start with telling you what Faith & Fidelity isn’t. It isn’t a light hearted, lets fall in bed and screw like bunnies, simple love at first sight, get together and hit a slight bump, and then live happily ever after kind of book. No, Faith & Fidelity is so much more than that. It contains some of the above elements but Tere Michaels has taken that basic plot line and twisted it into something so much more. This book is just more…more passions, more heartache, more love, just more. The characters are so well drawn that they are palpable. I felt like I was there, living their lives with them. Evan touched me deeply, his tale of love lost and the absolute mind numbing terror of being alone, the aching and physical pain of loving someone so much and then losing them in an instant. The trauma that he and his children faced, all of it was so emotionally written that I couldn’t stop the tears from flowing. As much as I loved Evan, I found that Matt quickly became my favorite character. I held my breath as I watched him develop from a man who has hit bottom to a man that finds his inner strength, a man that was emotionally bankrupt who suddenly discovers the true depth of his soul and the changes that love can bring about in a person, both good and bad changes. This story touched me deeply and I find myself grieving that the journey with these wonderful characters is now at an end. Faith & Fidelity is a 5 Angel Recommended Read from me and if it was possible for me to give it any higher accolades I would. I am eagerly awaiting any future works from Tere Michaels!
