Bridge of Dreams

It is 1955 and a bridge is being built across the Straits of Mackinac. Englishman Daniel Morris is the foreman on the job. He’s behind schedule, over budget, and extremely stressed out. He has his hands full managing men from different backgrounds and races, breaking up the constant fights and disagreements, replacing the men who quit or die. It is a lonely, hard life.

He is not the only one with a challenging life. He finds his newest iron worker on the ground beaten for being both an Indian lover and an openly gay man. As he has that in common with the big man, Daniel is at first sympathetic and then intrigued. The attraction physically, intellectually, and spiritually between Daniel and the Tall Walker is instant. However, it takes a brush with death for Daniel to admit that even to himself.

Bridge of Dreams is a surprisingly tender love story between two rough and tough men. Although the language is harsh, it is fitting for construction workers. The bedroom door is securely closed but the sensuality is inescapable. The description of working the bridge was so skillfully drawn that this reviewer, with her fear of heights, felt dizzy. Bridge of Dreams is a short but sweet read.
