A Little Taste of Red

Red is proud of herself but is tired of being alone. She was raised by her grandmother and has come a long way on her own. When she receives a late night call that her grandmother is sick, she rushes to the hospital. On the way, she hits a patch of black ice and her car spins out of control, tumbling into a ravine. Red is severely injured and knows that she is going to either freeze or bleed to death.

Lance is a werewolf who is on a hunting trip with his nephew. He scents a fire, followed by the smell of a human female, who is ovulating. His inner wolf immediately recognizes and claims her as his mate, before he even sees her. Lance’s pack is being slowly hunted down and killed by an unknown human and Lance’s future and that of his pack is bleak and uncertain. He knows that this is not the right time to find a mate, but he cannot deny his wolf.

Lance rescues Red and takes her to his brother’s house for treatment. When he finds out that Red’s leg is severely broken and it may need to be amputated, Lance knows that the only way to save Red is to turn her into a werewolf and take her as his mate. Will Red accept him and life as a werewolf? If not, the Alpha, Lance’s brother, will have no choice but to kill her, because she cannot go back to society with the knowledge of the pack.

A Little Taste of Red by Beth Wylde is a delicious and hot story, which I thoroughly enjoyed from the first page, right to the end. Red was such a strong young woman, coming from a poor background, with only her grandmother to raise her. She had every opportunity to take money from her best friend and live a life of luxury. Instead, she chose to be independent and make it on her own. Lance is a strong alpha male. He knows where his place is in his pack, but also knows that he could easily lead the pack if the need arose. He has instantaneous and deep emotions for Red, but knows if she does not accept him as a werewolf, she will be killed. His deep loyalty to his family is touching, as well as the war within himself to contain his inner beast. I was impressed that he had so much control over his wolf, when it was apparent that it was nearly impossible to keep that control. This story gave me a quick look at a loving, close-knit family, just trying to survive in a world that feared the unknown and wanted them dead. The story moved at a fast pace, interlaced with deep emotions, hot passion, and intense action. I highly recommend this book and will be looking for more titles from Beth Wylde!
