Dragon Actually
Dragon Actually by G. A. Aiken:
Annwyl the Bloody knew that she would die this day fighting the men that fought for her brother and she was prepared to die if need be. Her men wouldn’t be happy but they would carry on without her. What she didn’t expect was to turn and see a huge black dragon watching her like he wanted to have her for supper. She had almost died from fighting so she wasn’t going to fear the dragon and she told him as much right before she passed out at his feet. She awakens several days later to discover that dragons can talk and this one was a nice beast because he had saved her life. She also finds out that they are very sweet, they like to talk, and he has one of the strangest families that she has ever heard of in her life. Her life in the cave with Fearghus the Destroyer would be perfect if she didn’t keep having dreams of a tall man with long black hair and in her dreams she is kissing him. What she doesn’t know is that Fearghus and the man are very close and one day she may have to choose which one she will want; the dragon or the man.
Leave it to G. A. Aiken to make me fall in love with a dragon. This story starts out so bloody that I almost didn’t think it would be a romance, but leave it to this author to turn it around until it’s a very hot story. Fearghus the Destroyer is, without a doubt, the sweetest and nicest dragon that I’ve ever met. He’s sweet, he sits down and talks to you, and he takes care of people when they are sick – anybody want to trade in a husband for this guy? The secret that he is keeping from Annwyl may destroy their friendship, but then again it may be just what she wants to hear.
Chains and Flames by G. A. Aiken:
Princess Rhiannon Dragonwitch absolutely hates her mother. When she discovers that the Queen has promised her hand in marriage to Bercelak the Great she ups that hate to utter loathing for her. Rhiannon plans to fly to her cave and hide from her mother but on the way her mother’s magic takes away her ability to be a dragon. She turns into a human in mid air and when she lands she is at the cave of Bercelak. He has loved her since he first saw her when he was just a lad and he can’t wait to be mated with her. When she lands at his cave and he realizes that her mother has used magic to keep her from being a dragon he knows that he has but one chance to prove himself to her. For years he was a dragon warrior and every medal that he owed he had gotten it for her. She had no way of knowing this but she would soon know all of this and would know everything about him because he planned to keep her forever. All he had to do was convince her to stay with him.
I loved this story for a couple of reason. We got to meet Fearghus’ family, including his parents, and in this story we got to set how they met and enjoy their romance. It was so cool to see how the dragon world began and to see how all of these stories tie together. And Ms. Aiken’s ties them all together in a way that I never dreamed she could. In another story that I reviewed this month, Can’t Get Enough by Shelly Laurenston, we meet Bercelak’s parents and see how they came to be together. These two authors have created a dragon world that I love and I can’t wait for more stories to be written so that I can come to know more and more of it. I think that you’re going to love these stories and I encourage you to read them because they will have you loving the dragons and their mates as only a true dragon lover can.
