The Lovers
The Lovers by Sara Bell is a homoerotic contemporary romance.
Scott used to be a very well known child star until his mother, Stephanie, almost destroyed his career. When he was younger, Scott thought his mother was cool when she went along with his drinking and drug use. Unfortunately, when Scott grew up and cleaned up his act his mother continued in spite of all the help he gave her. Now she is threatening to go public in a tell-all-rag about his homosexuality. Scott has kept his sexuality out of the limelight so it wouldn’t effect his occupation as an actor, but no more. Even though it might affect his relationship with his lover Zane, Scott decides to beat his mother to the punch. His lover Zane is so deep in the closet that Scott doesn’t know if and how this situation could affect them. Will Scott and Zane’s love overcome this obstacle or are they fated to part?
Ms. Bell has once again written a short story that ensnares the reader from the very start. I couldn’t put it down until the bitter end. The terrible price that families take when a loved one is hooked on drugs is very clearly shown in how Stephanie threw away even her son’s love for her next fix. Scott is a very remarkable man, he not only overcame his drug use, but was strong enough to stand up for what was right and still show compassion for his mother, even to the end. Zane has never truly accepted his sexuality causing many difficulties with his relationship with Scott. In the end the only way to truly be happy is to be true to yourself. Thanks go to Ms. Bell for a great story.
