Tattoos
Tattoos is a lesbian erotic romance.
While Mandy is waiting for her boyfriend Eddy to arrive at Mojo’s bar, she tells her friend and bartender Chelsea that he never came home the night before. When Chelsea takes a risk and tells Mandy that he has been sleeping around, Mandy publicly dumps Eddy in the bar, proceeds to get rip-roaring drunk and then goes home—with Chelsea.
The following day, Chelsea opens Mandy’s eyes to the possibility of loving again. Instead of searching for another lover in a male, however, Chelsea shows Mandy that loving another woman can be just as fulfilling.
A very short story, Tattoos is about one woman’s foray into homosexual experiences. There is almost no back story and even less emotional depth. Because of that, the reader has very little invested in the characters. Both Mandy and Chelsea are quite likeable. It would have been very gratifying, however, to read a little more into the emotions that brought the two to the crossroads they faced.
The first third of the story was about Mandy’s breakup and raging tantrum with Eddy, which was much less relevant to the story than the bond between the two women. I would have liked to read more about what made the two women decide to go beyond the boundaries of simple friendship and love one another in a much more sexual fashion. A pleasant read, but the story left this reviewer with more questions than answers.
