A Helping Hand
State Trooper Dan Fletcher and Deputy Sheriff Rich Taylor have been best friends for years. But, Rich has been keeping secrets, secrets that could destroy their friendship. Rich is gay, and after Dan is injured in a car wreck, he realizes that the feelings he has for Dan go far beyond friendship. When Rich has to move in to help Dan recover from his injuries, things quickly come to a head and some hard decisions will have to be made.
This book was well written, raised some interesting questions, and had some really good characters. Dan and Rich are great, even as I found myself not liking either character at times. I wanted to scream at them both to get over themselves and open their eyes at times, but in the end I don’t think Shayla Kersten could have done it any better. The foibles of the characters emphasized how agonizing their decisions would be and the possible repercussions that they could face. It’s not easy to come out in the world, especially if you are in a macho, testosterone laden field such as law enforcement. I did feel sorry for the secondary character of Jeremy and hope that there will be a book and a love for him in the future. I can give this one no less than 5 Angels!
