Jinx

Bella enjoys working in the family business. Well in the part of the business everyone in Bigtime knows about, but she has no interest in carrying on the family superhero business. She’ll leave that up to her male relatives. She spends all her time trying to suppress her gift of luck, and avoiding the superheros and ubervillians that abound in Bigtime. But in a town like Bigtown, where the superheros and ubervillians are a dime a dozen that is next to impossible. Especially when the handsome, urbane Debonair, a man that straddles the border between good and evil, takes and interest in her, But, he leaves all the women swooning in his wake and Bella has no desire to become another notch in his superhero belt.

Jinx is the third book in the Bigtime series by Jennifer Estep. It gives us the story of Bella Bulluci, the sister of Johnny Bulluci, the hero of Hot Mama. Bella is cursed with the power of Luck. Only with Bella you never know if her power is going to help her out or embarrass her, or both. She is an interesting character because of this gift. After having so many things explode in her face, tripping over nonexistent things, and just generally narrowly avoiding harm she has become resigned to her fate. I would have like her to be a bit less whiney but, if I had to live with the constant mishaps I would probably be a bit whiney too. Written with Ms. Estep’s satirical brand of humor, and penchant for poking fun at her characters even as she makes us love them, Jinx was next to impossible for me to put down. I read it cover to cover with plenty of giggles and “honey, listen to this” throughout. If you love humor, plot, and great characters then Jinx and the entire Bigtime series is for you.
