A Heart’s Chance

Mikeli has lost his wings and his claim to his celestial realm because he lost his true soul mate. He keeps that dark past a secret and forcefully takes Lady Ilona as his wife. Together, Mikeli and Ilona have 9 daughters, all of which Ilona manages to poison against their father, except the youngest, Marija.

Marija loves her father very much, despite her mother’s poisonous lies; and he makes her his heir. He promises to never use his daughters as trade for wealth or power, and he hasn’t, yet, although Ilona has Marija believing that he has. When Mikeli is nearly brought to his knees in a war and is backed into a corner, he must fight against the one that is trying to take his daughter and give her a choice of two men.

Cael is a seraph that has searched many years for his soul mate. When he has an accidental meeting with Marija, he knows that she is the one and promises her that he will always keep her safe. When Marija is in danger of being taken by the other man, he must step forward, save her and her father and win her heart, for he will never be complete without her and her love.

This is the first book that I have read by Paula Calloway. It will not be my last. What a touching love story between Cael and Marija! Both of these characters were so sweet and noble. In the beginning, I thought that Mikeli would be a tyrant, but as I got to know him, he is also a great man. Mikeli was a powerful man with a manipulative and deceiving wife. His greatness is shown in his love and tolerance through all that she has done. Ilona was one of the most unlikable characters I have ever met, and she provided plenty of anger and discord in the book. Mrs. Calloway’s writing style reminds me of how much writing is a true form of art. Her use of descriptions and words carried me into the story, and my only regret is that the book was not longer.
