Hard at Work
James Colfield is an accomplished mystery writer and editor, who lands a new job in Toronto. On the plane ride to his new location, he meets a stunning woman who turns out to be a little arrogant. He doesn't even know why he bothered speaking to her. He is still trying to get over losing his love to leukemia, and nothing seems to be taking the pain away. Elizabeth Rivers grew up in Montreal and worked at Byrd Publishing for eight years. As editor in chief, she is trying to get over some bad past relationships and has no desire to become involved with anyone. Returning home from a short vacation, she doesn't care for the fact that her airplane seat was not correct, and she must sit next to another passenger who wishes to talk. After heading to work, Elizabeth is greeted by the new senior editor, who is no other than the man on the plane. James is also surprised. At least for the next three months they will only be working on manuscripts together. Still that doesn't stop the fact she feels butterflies when he is near, and he smells her intoxicating scent with each step she takes. In no time, they become closer but can they begin a relationship while trying to get over past situations that have troubled their souls?
I love this story. Hard at Work has refreshing characters that make the read enjoyable with every turn of the page. The action starts immediately as the reader is quickly lured into the storyline. The chemistry between Elizabeth and James is great. I love the way their need slowly burns within their heart to reach out to the other, as they wonder should they hold onto to the other, or not. Cherie Amour weaves delight into this splendid read. Elizabeth's sensations with her past experiences as well as James, and his hurtful feelings with losing someone, show how in-depth and wide their emotions run. Ms. Amour creatively weaves a splendid tale with wonderful dialogue that charms the reader. The characters are indeed genuine and produce a tale that almost comes to life.
