Fate Entwined
Fate Entwined by Auburnimp and Michael Barnette is the second book in the Sakura Blades series.
Back in the Tokugawa period in Japan, many swordsmen lived by their wits facing death at any moment. Masami comes from the Sanada family who fought against the present ruling faction, the Tokugawas, and has been trained from an early age to kill the Shogun, the ruler. After his sensie died, he was barely staying alive until he met Kiyoshi who took him under his wing. Together they found companionship and more as they realized that they were attracted to each other. On top of Masami's problems, Kiyoshi has had his problems with the Tokugawa's himself and has been branded an outlaw. All Masami and Kiyoshi want is to find someplace safe, but trouble always finds them. Add to that Masami's quick temper that gets the best of him, especially when Kiyoshi is in danger, keeping Kiyoshi on his toes. Will Kiyoshi and Masami find a safe haven or will the Tokugawas finally take their revenge?
Auburnimp and Mr. Barnette have continued their series based in using ancient Japan and historical references that enhance the story line. I love how Japanese history comes alive as Masami and Kiyoshi live through the difficulties of that era. I enjoyed watching all the cultural references and attitudes from the time. For anyone who studies ancient Japan, this is one book that brings the time to life for the reader. The love between Masami and Kiyoshi wonderfully unfolds as they live through all of the difficulties placed in their path. I for one can't wait to read the next installment in the Sakura Blades series.
