Kiss of Fate
Eileen Grosvenor has traveled the country and parts of the world in search of answers to questions brought up in her research into urban myths and legends. Fascinated by a specific story and hounded by dreams of a shape shifting lover, Eileen has gone overseas to England to try and find answers where it seems to have begun, at the root of the story. What she finds will change her life forever.
The Pyr are fighting for their very existence and at their head is Erik Sorensson, their leader and the focus of the third prophesied firestorm. Having one firestorm under his wing, so to speak, he doesn’t believe he’s worthy of another, but knowing that his acceptance of the firestorm and the sacrifice mentioned in the prophecy could sway the tide in the Pyr’s favor. Erik will do what is needed regardless of his feelings or the feelings of others.
The third in the Dragonfire series by Deborah Cooke, Kiss of Fate brings us Erik’s story, both present and past. I was enthralled from the beginning and lost a night’s sleep because I could not put down this book. My favorite in the series so far, Kiss of Fate continues the story that Kiss of Fire and Kiss of Fury began. The good vs. evil that weaves through this series is amazing. The villains are loathsome and the heroes imperfect, but trying to aspire to something more. The side story of the Wyvern is heartbreaking, and I cannot wait to see what is next. I enjoyed the repartee between Eileen and Erik and that Eileen would not give up. She took everything in stride and was willing to step aside when she needed to. A very satisfying pairing for the leader of the Pyr, Eileen and Erik’s story was only shadowed by the greater storyline that we will see more of in Winter Kiss available November 2009.
