Blood Oath
This hasn't been a happy time for Kassian. He's lost his lover, his home, and now he's been assigned a new witch. A witch that is supposed to help him become a Vampire Lord. The only problem it that the witch, Cypress, is as arrogant and cold as Kassian, and on top of it all he's a bit indignant at being assigned the job of helping Kassian. Cypress wants to fight the darkness in the world, not help bring more into it, and that is what he feels he will be doing by helping Kassian. So what if he skips a few steps along the way? Who will it hurt?
Unfortunately it hurts a lot of people, and the only way to overcome the trouble that Cypress and Kassian have brought among the townspeople is to get over their own arrogance and cold hearts – a task that is seemingly impossible. Will the two be able to get past their differences, or will they be the downfall of the town and themselves?
This is a very interesting story to add to an already interesting series.Blood Oath was written with Ms. Stone's usual attention to detail and deft characterization. It is a bit hard to like Kassian and Cypress in the beginning. They aren’t very nice people, and both are callous, hardened men who have difficulty feeling anything for those outside themselves. The actual blood oath is intriguing, and the intensity of the danger builds with an even tempo. The climax is well written and while not unexpected still held me spellbound. A few of the characters from the previous Vampire Magic series make a brief appearance, and the way is left open for more adventures for them and Kassian and Cypress. I look forward to reading more books by Kira Stone and hope that the Vampire Magic series has many more installments.
