Lovers, Dreamers, and Me
Tolliver has a full life taking care of his teenage sister, Sarah, and running the book store his mother left to him and Sarah. So when Sarah decides Tolliver needs to get out more and hooks him up with a fortuneteller named Noble, Tolliver has big issues. First and foremost, Tolliver’s not gay! But he can’t deny his attraction to Noble even if he wants too. Noble’s persistence makes Tolliver crazy with lust frustrated as all hell. Having to rethink this whole life isn’t exactly easy, but that’s what Noble seems to inspire in Tolliver. When Sarah starts acting up, it seems to change the game a bit, just like Noble’s secret does. Will Tolliver make the right decisions to ensure a happy life in the future, or will he remain oblivious?
I just love Willa Okati’s style. The slightly dark tone to her writing keeps you guessing until the end. Lovers, Dreamers, and Me is no exception. Noble’s character has a certain darkness to it that keeps you guessing about him. Through the novel, until the last few pages, I was almost positive he was something superhuman. Finding out he was just a normal guy with a gift wasn’t disappointing. And you have to appreciate a guy like Tolliver, who seems like the average male with his oblivious-to-everything nature. Each man’s individuality makes them the perfect pair. Sarah’s character is used brilliantly to propel the story into different directions, and that also keep you on the edge of your seat. A solid 5 angels for me!
