Perfect Man
Alex Nichols’ sister has just told him that she has set him up on a blind date, a date with the “Perfect Man”. Little does she know that the man she has so willingly set him up with is that same man that tormented him his last year in high school, the same man that Alex carried an unrequited crush on for so many years, the perfect man of his fantasies–at least in looks. Craig Fontaine knows that the model-gorgeous man in the photos on his coworker’s desk is someone he would like to get to know, and when offered the opportunity to meet him, he jumps at the chance. But when it comes out who Alex really is, will Craig be able to convince the man that this isn’t just some sick joke, and will Alex be able to accept Craig and his dark past?
I’m relatively new to the works of Shawn Lane and find that I’m still wavering in my feelings about her writing style. I enjoyed Perfect Man for the most part. The characters were fully fleshed, and I was able to connect with the emotions that they were going through. I enjoyed the progression of their relationship, and their adventures in the sexual arena were certainly well written and hot. My problem comes with how the author ties up the ending. Everything seems to be progressing at a normal albeit speedy pace, when suddenly everything is wrapped up in a single chapter. This was very disappointing to me; I felt that it shattered the momentum of the story to have it end so abruptly. It also felt like I was missing a few chapters. I can’t say much without spoilers, but Alex says that he saw signs but failed to heed them. I don’t feel that the author really addressed this. There are only a couple of spots where I read Alex getting that all wasn’t quite what it seemed with Craig. Nowhere did I see him realizing what was happening to Craig. I will continue to read Shawn Lane, because other than this little disappointment, I do enjoy reading about her characters. This is a 4 Angel read for me.
