Mike Sparks’s life has completely changed. He is in the midst of a divorce after finding his wife in bed with another woman. He has found that his interest in the opposite sex has waned while his interest in men has increased and he wants to explore that facet of his sexuality. Can he satiate this urge or will he find that his imaginings are better than the reality?

I waffled a great deal on what to rate this story. It’s not a bad story, it’s well written and the characters are three dimensional. I believe that my hesitation is more from the implausibility of the characters’ actions. I have no trouble suspending disbelief for stories involving otherworldly creatures, aliens, or paranormal elements. What I have trouble believing is that a man who finds his wife in bed with another woman, has a first time homosexual encounter that ends in what amounts to date rape, would then be so…I’m not even sure of the right word to use, blasé doesn’t quite fit, more like apathetic. Mike’s actions just fell flat for me and I couldn’t conceive of someone acting or reacting as he does. On the other hand, the sexual tension between Mike and Niko was great and the emotions that Niko felt about being involved in with someone in the closet, someone who isn’t completely sure of his sexuality, and someone who is also in the public eye with his job. I’ve enjoyed Ms. Byrnes’ work in the past and will continue to read her books.
