The Virtual Man

Nano-engineer Tiana Weiss has been assigned by her company to build a space station in the Magellan Outpost in the far reaches of space. Her job is complicated by a nasty divorce that needs to be made final before she leaves Earth for two years, and her soon-to-be-ex husband hasn’t shown up in court! At least she is traveling on a luxury liner, where each first-class cabin has its own holographic attendant. Her attendant is definitely an advance in holo technology, and Tiana feels like she’s beginning to have feelings for him. In fact, it’s almost like he’s a real man. That’s because he is Derek Hart, escaped convict and expert computer programmer. Derek is innocent, but he needs to be able to prove it before he can return to Earth. Who wants him out of the way? Will Tiana and Derek be able to figure out what is going on?

I really enjoyed this book. It’s a non-stop science fiction adventure, with much of the episodic flavor one finds in the movie serials of the past. Ms. Sinclaire has a very inventive mind, and she has come up with an intriguing technological vision of the future. She’s also come up with some great characters and lively erotic scenes. Her heroine, Tiana, and her hero, Derek, are both dynamic individuals, plus they really strike sparks off each other, whether they are making love or just arguing. I also enjoyed the secondary characters the author brings to the fore, and I suspect that Ms. Sinclaire intends to write at least a couple of sequels for these secondary characters. I will await these sequels with a great deal of anticipation.
