Merideth loves what she’s not supposed to have—Godiva dark mint chocolates. Merideth is a vampire who belongs to Clan Gladius and is currently employed as a quiet and dedicated librarian. She never goes out except to raid the local blood bank for nourishment. When the clan’s Magister James shows up in her office and gives her an all expenses paid vacation to the high class Hotel Paradisio, she happily accepts. Upon her arrival, Merideth feels completely outclassed by all of the well-dressed guests in the hotel. She heads up to her room, which happens to be the same number her goddess is represented by, to unpack when there is a knock on the door. To her astonishment, it is a man bearing an invitation to a masquerade ball at Venus Estate. When she arrives at the ball, she is amazed to find the magistra of another clan, Kalia, at the party—who she’s had a crush on for some time now! Feeling pretty good from the alcohol she’s consumed, Merideth heads out to the garden where she finds her goddess waiting for her with a chalice that she invites her to drink from. One drink will grant her any wish she wants for one night. What do you suppose she wishes for?

Blood and Mint Chocolates by Adrianne Brennan is a cute love story between a shy and quiet librarian and a very outspoken and exotic magistra of a different clan. This is definitely a tale of opposites attracting! Merideth obviously wishes for just one night of “fun” with Kalia, and it of course comes true for her. What she doesn’t expect is for Kalia to contact her the following morning asking her to meet her for dinner. Kalia takes the shy Merideth to a nightclub after dinner so that they can “eat” and they end up meeting a couple that is arguing. Merideth and her partner break up the fight with a little persuasion and take them back to their hotel room for a nightcap. After feeding from the fight instigator, Steve, his companion Erin arrives. Merideth and Kalia soon discover that Steve is in a vampire hunting clan and is trying to get Erin to turn her friends in to be terminated. When Erin realizes that the two ladies are vampires, Merideth and Kalia have only one choice—either turn her, or they die. I usually don’t read this type of book, but I found myself captivated with the tale! I would recommend Blood and Mint Chocolates to all of my friends!
