Blood Line
Josh Kaine is a truck driver who travels the roads with his wife, Jessie, making deliveries. One night, while traveling, a large animal chases the truck and eventually throws itself onto them trying to reach the couple. When Josh gets out of the truck, what appears to be a werewolf bites him before he can cut its head off to finally kill it. The next day, Josh is overrun with a high fever and an infected bite that sends him and Jessie on their way back home. He awakens feeling great and has an overwhelming desire to go somewhere he doesn’t even know of. When he finally arrives, he’s at a meeting for several werewolf clans, and an ancient wolf named Garan is speaking to the group. Josh corners him after the meeting and he tells him he has killed the alpha of a clan, and soon the rest of the clan will be after him to kill him, no matter the circumstances. Josh ends up searching for Garan’s niece Ganda – a sweet and kindly old woman – in the swamps of Louisiana.
Blood Line by Rie McGaha is easily the best shape-shifter novel I’ve had the pleasure of reading in a long time! I felt Jessie’s frustration with Josh and the mystery of him taking off on a mysterious quest and his seemingly insatiable sexual appetite. I can completely understand her desire to be a wolf with him so that they can live forever with each other. When she tricks him into turning her, I laughed at the ingenuity she showed in doing so! Not only did I just love their characters, but I also completely fell in love with Ganda. She is the sweetest little old lady you could ever meet! She is always thinking of everyone other than herself and cooking up the yummiest sounding entrées to feed the wolves’ ravenous appetites. It just broke my heart that her husband died thousands of years before the novel takes place. Even with that said, you still feel as though you know him, and your heart breaks with hers. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Blood Line is one of many in a series! Please don’t disappoint me Ms. McGaha!
