It’s the morning after, and Jaden Cole is excited about reconnecting with Simon Saint-Saëns. He’s not prepared to lose the man he loves and decides they need to find a source of protection. Jaden’s nine years away were painful and laced with darkness. He wants to make amends for his actions, and paying any price for Simon’s well-being is a start. There is only one source powerful enough to provide protection, and that source has a message for Simon. When Simon lives through the foretold events, he will have to make a decision about his and Jaden’s fate as well as the fate of the world.

M.L. Rhodes has written yet another fantastic installment of the Vertigo Chronicles. Jaden has acquired a great deal of knowledge, power, and magic during his absence. I could feel his turmoil throughout the story. The fear of Simon no longer accepting or loving him after learning of Jaden’s past was clear. Simon gains more of an idea of what he is but not the clear definition of what it means. In a moment of trial by fire, he gains a sample of his dormant powers. I’m looking to seeing what he can really do in future books. As always, we have some action, suspense, and two tingling erotic scenes. There are also a few moments of Simon and Jaden taking hard looks at their past choices and examining how they affect the future. This is a wonderful story, and if you enjoyed the first book, you truly won’t be disappointed.
