Melting a Frozen Heart
Jack Forsythe, son of the Norse god Odin, is the god of Winter. Right now, he is a cranky god with a head cold and a bad attitude, and Christmas bugs the heck out of him. As Jack Frost, he is in charge of Winter weather, but currently a sneeze causes a blizzard, and if he doesn’t get well soon, this Winter storm is going to cause untold amounts of damage. It’s time to pull out the big guns and call on his assistant Lucy for a little help.
Lucy Pierre, executive assistant extraordinaire, is full of Christmas cheer. She may have grown up in the New York foster system, but she loves the holiday season regardless of her lack of family. She has had feelings for her playboy employer for a long time, so when he calls for her help, she willingly rushes over with chicken soup… and a house-load of Christmas ornamentation. Regardless of the sniffles, it doesn’t take much for Jack to coax her into his bed and for her to profess her love to him.
Jack’s heart is as cold and frozen as the season he rules, and he knows that what could pass for love on his end would not be as much as Lucy deserves. He pushes her away and in the process breaks both of their hearts. He’s convinced that he has done this for her own good, but this doesn’t excuse how miserable they both feel. How in Valhalla did Jack get himself into this mess? What’s a god to do when he has made the biggest mistake of his long life?
Dahlia Rose’s Melting a Frozen Heart is a lighthearted and fun holiday-themed read. Lovers of Norse mythology will be pleased, because Ms. Rose borrows heavily from the Norse myths and tucks Odin and Loki and Valhalla into the story. In this tale, Jack is something of a brooding type. He has some issues with anger and holds a lot of resentment towards his father that he must come to grips with before opening his heart to love. Lucy is almost annoyingly cheerful, but she also has a quick wit and something of a smart mouth which make her irresistible.
One of the highlights of this story is a cut-throat game of Monopoly played between Lucy and Jack. It is a sweet and teasing scene, and I had to laugh as the two of them battled it out to see who would own Boardwalk. Readers looking for a light and fun holiday read will want to check out Melting a Frozen Heart. It might just make you take a second glance at the Winter weather.
