Kristin Van Dijk aka Baby Shark and her partner Otis Millett are hired to trade the ransom money for the safe return of Savannah Smike to her bootlegger boyfriend. But from the beginning things don’t go as planned. It seems that no one was supposed to live except Savannah and the rest of the people involved were just fodder. But Kristin and Otis are hard to kill and now they are determined to figure out why they were setup. In a race back and forth across state lines Kristin and Otis must avoid the determined thugs out to kill them, rescue Savannah and return her to her parents, and get even with the guy who set them up. Just an average case for Kristin and Otis!

In Robert Fate’s third Baby Shark book, Kristin and Otis are tough, resourceful and in trouble again! The story is non-stop action and thrills like each of the other books in this series. I loved it! Kristin is really coming into her own as a unique character and a woman that is growing up and finding her own place in the world. Kristin begins to examine if she likes who she has become and realizes that she has the power to be who she wants to be. I am also thrilled that in this book she goes back to her pool playing roots. A pool playing woman who is also a private investigator is such a novel characterization for a story set in the 1950’s that I hope Mr. Fate continues to keep both of those aspects a part of Kristin’s story. If you already enjoy the Baby Shark books, then you don’t want to miss this one; I think it is my favorite to date! If you have not yet discovered the Baby Shark series, I highly recommend that you start with the first book, Baby Shark.
