Special Delivery
Mark Hanson is a secretary in a law firm. Although confident in his job, he is extremely shy in his personal life. Sure, he’s “one of the girls” in the break room and relates fine with women, but get him around an attractive man and he can barely get out a coherent sentence. When a new delivery man appears in the building, Mark is as tongue-tied and awkward as ever. Tim Callahan is gorgeous, and he has all of the secretaries in a tizzy thinking that his open friendliness to them is in actuality flirting. Soon the ladies are forming a pool to bet on which of them Tim will ask out first. Does Mark even have a chance? If he ever wants a chance at love, he’s going to have to leave the nerves at home and go after what he wants for a change.
Cassandra Gold’s Special Delivery is about a young man who overcomes his shyness in order to find love. This is a story about regular folks with normal everyday jobs, and I find it refreshing that no one is rich and/or powerful or terribly exotic for a change. This story acknowledges that the “average joe” deserves love, too. There is not much of a conflict in Special Delivery, unless you consider Mark’s struggle to overcome his shyness and his competition with the office femme fatale for Tim’s attentions. Regardless, there is an undertone of sweetness to this story as well as the occasional touch of humor that make this a very appealing read.
