Dark God Descending
It was a long way to fall from pampered Emperor of the lost Mayan city of Nikte Uaxac to sleeping naked on a cell floor in Athens, Georgia. Mistaken for a giant bat, winged demon Semris II thought he'd be chasing off the former fiancé of his brother's novia when he descended on the campfire in the Yucatan jungle. What he found instead was a group of scientists and mercenaries who threw a net over him, tranquilized him and carried him away to a world he never could have imagined.
All graduate anthropology student James Tucker Upchurch III wanted when he joined Professor Lane Westcott's expedition was field experience. When he got home, he figured on finishing school and marrying his fiancée, Shannon Leary. Instead he found himself babysitting a 5,000-year-old demon with an appetite for blood and raw meat, and leathery black wings he could hide in pouches on his back. Standing by as the professor trampled on Semris' godlike pride was one thing. Being an accomplice to his murder was another, not to mention the illegal substance Tuck had discovered in the professor's basement. Little did Tuck know that setting Semris free and turning the professor over to the police would end up putting his life - and Shannon's - on the line.
With Tuck in protective custody, Shannon had no clue that the half-naked man she found in her horse pasture was the giant escaped bat Tuck had told her about. All she knew or cared about was that he had an appealing innocence, a heart of gold and dazzling green eyes. As much as she was drawn to Semris, her straightforward, unimaginative physician brother wasn't so certain the odd foreigner his naïve sister had dragged home was trustworthy enough to sleep under his roof. David never once thought that meeting Semris would change the length and course of his life forever.
Dark God Descending is the brilliantly written story of two men separated in age by thousands of years and the woman they both love. It weaves vampire myth together with Mayan legend, creating the story of a beautiful romance that causes unintended consequences for two very divergent peoples. Between the covers of this book, a demon finds love when he isn't supposed to know how to love. A no-nonsense brother changes his way of thinking when he discovers a 7-foot man with a 14-foot wingspan stuck in his shower. A woman has to watch the man she loves walk away from her, possibly forever, for the greater good of humanity. And a rich, greedy man obsessed with scientific discovery and bent on revenge gets what he justly deserves in an ironic twist of fate.
I highly recommend this out-of-the-ordinary novel to readers of paranormal romance. It will tug at your heartstrings, have you sitting anxiously on the edge of your seat and will ultimately leave you with the message that sometimes those who appear to be the most monstrous are the least monstrous of all.
