If I Must
Joel has a hard time leaving his friend and roommate, Ian, even for the holidays. Ian may be a genius but he's also absent-minded-to say the least-which causes Joel to worry about him when he takes a holiday trip to see his mother and sister. During the trip he talks about Ian nearly the entire time which leads Joel to discover he feels more for Ian than just pure friendship. When their cat dies Joel runs home to Ian. Does Ian feel more than friendship also?

If I Must is a light-hearted, often funny romance. Amy Lane does a good job of showing how the everyday workings of life can sometimes lead to a deeper relationship with a person. Joel is the perfect opposite of Ian: organized to a fault. Ian is a certifiable genius who is in serious need of a babysitter, which can be a little frustrating to read when the guy can't even function through normal, simply everyday life. Besides Ian's juvenile tendencies I found that the opposites-attract factor refreshingly honest and sweet. Having the opportunity to read about the growing relationship between Joel and Ian was a true delight. I will definitely be reading more from Amy Lane in the future!
