Poker Night: Full House
Kent Baker has wanted Marco De Le Santo since the moment the handsome young man walked into the office of his construction company. Until he discovered that Marco had lied about his age. So Kent has taken a step back and has waited for his moment, only that moment has never come and Kent has grown bitter.
Since the age of sixteen Marco De Le Santo has been the only parent to his three younger siblings and given up his own life to make sure that theirs is different. He dropped out of school, lied about his age and got a job working construction. His job is the best and the worst thing in his life. The best because he has become well trained as a bricklayer by the owner, Kent Baker, and the worst because Marco wants his boss in the worst way possible, but Kent hates him for what he thinks are Marco's bed hopping ways. Will he believe the truth now that Marco is ready to tell it?
Marco and Kent have grown to be my favorites over previous books. Each layer that was peeled back showed that underneath all the fighting was a passion that burned so deep that when it erupted it was sure to shake the very earth. Now in Full House we finally see just how very complicated Marco and Kent are and probe into the whys and wherefores not to mention almost burning up from all the heat between the two. Marco finally confesses to Kent why he lied about his past and the events going on his life currently. Kent comes to understand how his mistaken impressions have affected the young man and just how wrong he was about Marco. I felt closer to Marco and Kent than I have any of the other characters in this series. Partly because we've seen this relationship developing over time and this makes the final outcome more realistic, but mostly because it explores how pride and misconceptions can almost destroy a person. Marco was so worried about his pride that he has single handedly tried to raise his brothers and sister. Too proud to take a helping hand when it's offered, too proud to correct the mistaken beliefs of his boss, and too proud to admit how much that same boss lights him up inside. Kent was too busy protecting himself from what he deemed an inappropriate interest in Marco, first because he was too young but later because of Marco's apparent loose ways. He never bothered to look beyond the surface and see what was obvious if you only looked a bit deeper. This is definitely my favorite of the entire series and I'm sad to see it end. I've really enjoyed being with Marco, Kent, Angelo, Zac, Trey, Kent, and Bobby as they journeyed along the path of love and happiness. Praise goes to Carol Lynne for creating yet another group of characters that stick with a reader and worm their way into their heart. This series is definitely a royal flush.
