Truly, Madly
Lucy Valentine's been determined to escape the family business and make her own way in the world trying her hand at many other jobs, but when her father's heart attack forces him to take a vacation, Lucy reluctantly agrees to step in. Valentine, Inc., the family's matchmaking business, must be headed by a Valentine in order to be successful, and for generations every Valentine has been able to read auras and pair up couples. All Valentines that is, except Lucy. When she was fourteen Lucy was zapped by an electrical surge, which altered her power. Now she can find lost objects, but she can't read auras. With her father's advice of "Fake it" ringing in her ears, Lucy steps into the world of matchmaking. When Lucy shakes the hand of one of her first clients, she's hit by a vision. Needing help, she heads upstairs to SD Investigations, meets sexy Sean Donahue, and asks him to help her investigate a crime.
I loved Truly, Madly, it was so much fun! Heather Webber has seamlessly blended a contemporary setting, paranormal elements, romance, comedy, crime and suspense. I really liked the writing style as well as the premise; I found both to be fresh and lively. The engaging and quirky characters were a delight. Lucy is very normal, aside from her paranormal talents, and I found her very intriguing. I loved Sean, and the dynamic between him and Lucy, particularly the way he was willing to trust Lucy, even when what she was saying seemed bizarre. I didn't want to put the book down or the story to end. So, I'm really looking forward to the next Lucy Valentine novel Deeply, Desperately due later in 2010. I can't wait!
