Christmas Present
As Deanna Green listens to the carolers singing, she thinks back to when she met Chris fifty-five years ago on Christmas Eve and how she’s missed him all these years.
Dee has always loved Christmas, only this year she’s worrying that she might lose her house and business over a loan her dad had gotten from Jack Mitchell’s father. Now he has a solution: she can marry him and he’ll call the debt paid. When she opened the door and saw Jack standing there, the anger that she felt that he would crash her party was almost uncontrollable, then a voice behind her asked if everything was all right. One look at Chris Stepner standing there and she’s lost. The feelings coursing through her body were ones of peace, joy, and love, all the emotions that Christmas meant to her. She feels she’s known him her whole life even though her mind keeps trying to remind her she’d only just met him; but her heart says differently. She knows she only has one night with him.
Jack wakes at exactly one o’clock a.m., scared of the dreams he’d been having about his past. He didn’t believe in ghosts, this wasn’t A Christmas Carol, but it seemed he was getting a visit from a ghost anyway. Seeing the light under his study door, Jack walks in and Chris tells him he’s been waiting for him.
Ms. Kelly has written a beautiful emotion-filled story. The reader will get wrapped up in Dee and Chris’s story, and be surprised by the ending. Dee faces impossible odds but Chris tells her not to worry, everything will work out. That scene is one where you get the scope of the love that Chris has for Dee. Jack is a character the readers will learn to love. If you’re looking for a book that shows the Christmas spirit, then I highly recommend Christmas Present.
