The Crystal Pendulum
Rachel, a spiritualist, asked her crystal if she was going to find a man who loves her. In response the pendulum swung in answer, yes; now all she has to do is wait. Having Jason Longbridge, a client, take care of her while she’s sick only makes her wish he could be the one for her; the only problem is, he’s married according to Claire, the receptionist. Grace, her daughter, has fallen in love with him also. Making him leave so she can get on with her life and help Grace over the hurt of Jason’s leaving was the hardest thing she’d ever done. Asking the crystal pendulum if Jason was in love with his wife brought no answer, but when asked if he loved her, it again gave her the answer of yes. Rachel knew she should of asked Jason, but after seeing that photograph of him and his family all she could think about was that he’d lied to her.
Jason Longbridge was in England on business and to buy a house for his brother and sister-in-law, he hadn’t planned on falling for the real estate agent and her daughter, but he did. Now he just has to find a way to get her to fall in love with him and taking care of her just might do the trick. After their romantic dinner, Jason plans to ask her to marry him, only things go wrong and he goes home to Texas to lick his wounds. Can he find a way to make Rachel and Grace his?
Ms. West’s novel will bring tears to the eyes of the reader. The author has written with such detail that the feelings that these two characters have for each other can be felt. Rachel has to learn that sometimes the question you don’t ask is the most important one of all. The interaction between Jason and Grace is a delight to read. These two are friends who only want the best for Rachel and know Grace knows he is it. When Rachel finds out what it is exactly that Jason has been hiding from her, you can just see her jaw drop and you have to laugh.
