True Reflections
In a three-book collection of poetry from Michelle Ailene True and Publish America on Truth (I see the interesting double meaning here), this is the first one I read. I, perhaps, have taken them out of order.
At 109 pages, this collection is an emotional spring of the author’s personal experiences with life and love. It would appear that during this period of the author’s writing life, she had some love wounds. Her writing is cathartic for the pain of ending love and situations that no longer are acceptable. Titles such as: Forbidden Fruit, Medal of Honor, Breaking Up, and Fool For Love take you deep into the author’s pain.
I very much enjoyed the sometimes bittersweet agony through the author’s word choices. She wisely employed pacing and rhythm to continue to effects of and increase the power of the words.
My favorite poem in this collection was: The Last Wound Is Still Bleeding. Though it’s such a basic truth, few stop to admire the simplicity of love. Boiling it down, you have the pain of your break up, you learn from it, you grow through it, and when you find you are ready to love again, you will see that the old wound no longer bleeds.
Well done!
