Lovers and Barbells
Nina and Jeff have been good friends since high school. They have a strictly platonic relationship and despite the one blip induced by too much wine and pizza, they’ve remained great friends throughout the years. But when Body Repair by Hank opens up shop and Jeff spots Nina flirting with the brawny, handsome owner, he decides it’s time to act on his feelings.
Nina takes on personal trainer, Hank, in order to get in shape and win Jeff over with her new and improved figure. Nina is ready to take her relationship with Jeff to a new level even if it means a total makeover, but when he starts exhibiting some strange behavior, planning mysterious trips and sneaking around, she’s not sure if Jeff is quite the man she assumed him to be. As Nina and Jeff both try to “work out” their feelings for the other, they’ll find that moving from friends to lovers will require more than a superficial makeover.
Lovers and Barbells is a cute story about friendship, deeply held feelings, and the lengths that people will go to in order to change their image. Jeff truly cares about Nina and will go to drastic lengths to win her over. I liked his energy and desire to convince Nina that they were meant to be together. Jeff is a very realistic hero with a humorous personality that develops through some sticky situations. Likewise, Nina is looking to act on her love for Jeff and I liked how Ms. McIntyre has developed new hurdles for this very comfortable friendship to overcome. This is a very enjoyable story of how best friends can become great lovers in the most amusing and heartfelt circumstances.
