His Chattel

His Chattel could best be described as medieval, BDSM light. Lady Sabra is married to Lord Bascom, a violent and evil man. While he is away from the mansion, Lord Black Hawk storms the estate. He takes Lady Sabra as a prisoner, claiming her as his whore in retaliation for her husband’s murder of his parents. She resists, but is unable to hold her ground for long, as Lord Black Hawk and his men overwhelm her with their power and size. Captive, she succumbs to the physical overtures of the lord and his henchmen. Unable to escape, she gives in to Lord Black Hawk, calling him by his other name, Piers and develops feelings for him.

Lady Sabra’s character is a slave to her situation both physically and emotionally, but makes the best of it. Piers (has a Jekyll and Hyde personality at first, having real affection for the woman he initially treats as a whore. The rougher side of his personality dissipates as he falls deeper for Lady Sabra.) The erotically charged sex scenes are a bit rough in places, more for their intensity than any weird sex acts. The spanking scenes are particularly kinky and arousing. When Lady Sabra’s husband Robert returns, his treatment of her is worse than anything her captor inflicted upon her.

While the formula is the same as many other medieval romances, the insight we get into Lady Sabra’s thoughts and emotions makes her a much fuller character than the usual damsel in distress. I enjoyed the fact that this book, which concentrated on the principal characters was uncluttered by superfluous subplots. Danielle Fonda has two other medieval novellas by Allure Books, Maiden Bound and His Saxon Slave.
