Primitive Passion

Sylvia is supposed to be having the time of her life on her vacation to visit her pen pal in Mexico, but her dream trip has turned into a nightmare. Her cab driver decided to take her deep into the jungle and rob her at gunpoint. She’s got the wrong shoes on for a nature hike, she’s thirsty, and she has no money. Enter hunky Heath Williams, and on a black stallion no less. Sylvia feels like she’s been warped into a 1980's action-adventure movie a la “Romancing the Stone”.

Heath Williams is a recluse; he gets panic attacks whenever he even thinks about going near civilization. He lives a solitary life without any frills, having just the basic necessities. When Sylvia looks at him, he can see the distrust and fear, but he’d never hurt her. In fact, what he feels for her is intense - an immediate and fierce awareness. His favorable reaction to her is an alien thing because he hates people.

Primitive Passion is a lovely and touching story about passion that grows and unfurls into love. Heath’s emotional baggage has placed him where he is, and he is often cruel to Sylvia as he re-learns how to be civilized. Sylvia is scared to let her inhibitions get control of her, but they do, and she is won over by the loneliness in Heath’s eyes. Shara Lanel gives this one a few interesting twists and turns, weaving her characters into a love that may be the salvation of them both. Primitive Passion was a pleasurable read and I enjoyed it very much.
