Cyborg

The humans have created a race that has outlived its use and been deemed illegal and dangerous, the Cyborgs. The Cyborgs have escaped to the far reaches of the star system and are trying to form their own civilization. When The Company sends its best Hunters to attack a supposed Cyborg hold, the Hunters are suspicious of the information and orders they’ve been given. No one is more suspicious than Amaryllis, a human who has hidden her differences for so long that they have kept her from forming any kind of relationship with anyone. When the hunters are taken in a trap, they find out some hard truths about their entire existence. Will they be able to adapt with this new knowledge? Will Amaryllis ever fit in the way that she wants too, or is she doomed to always be on the outside looking in?

Cyborg by Kaitlyn O’Connor is a clever book with a unique story. The idea that people could be so duped as to not know who or what they are is scary, but dealt with well in this book. I felt that Cyborg was reminiscent of Battlestar Galactica, which, for me, was great as I am a huge sci-fi fan. Cyborg is much more adult and very spicy. You aren’t quite sure until the end as to what the relationship dynamics are going to be. Well-done Ms. O’Connor, this was an amazing story with an empathic cast.
