Secret Diaries

Nicole is a twenty-five year old up and coming attorney. When her mother asks her to clean out her recently deceased grandmother’s things, she agrees. She had been very close to her Nana, Elizabeth, and is surprised to find a locked strongbox in the attic. She wonders what could have been so important as to lock it away. Nicole opens the box and finds journals that were her grandmothers from a time she was a secretary for an attorney. She decides to read the journals, finding to her amazement that her grandmother had far more sides to her than Nicole had known. After Nicole has read some of the diaries, she decides to share them with her new boyfriend, Brad. Nicole and Brad embark on a discovery of submission, and domination, passion and love, due to the openness and honesty of a woman’s words, who had gone the same path many years before.

Claire Thompson has in her book Secret Diaries, taken a wonderful look at the beginnings of a BDSM relationship. The characters Nicole and Brad, as well as others are wonderfully written. The trust that is built between Nicole and Brad is an essential element to any relationship but even more especially a Dominate/submissive one. The look into the life of Elizabeth is heartwarming and shows the love she has for both her husband and her boss. This book took me a little while to get into but once I was in, it was extremely well worth it. I was actually sorry to see it end. This novel is a wonderful read and will be added to my keeper pile of books.
