Annie and Michael Knowles had what seemed to be a “normal life” to the outside world. Lydia and Simon Haas have never been a normal family. Simon, an eccentric artist, had a dark and mysterious background with his now current wife Lydia. Lydia came from a very horrific childhood to a world that shunned and pitied her because of her status in her husband’s dark paintings.

Both of these couples do not expect what the future will hold once their lives become entangled. When Michael is taken one cannot help but wonder was it his job at an abortion clinic which perpetuated their death threats or was it his wife’s affair with the illustrious Simon Haas.

The Doctor’s Wife by Elizabeth Brundage is a very powerful story. The writing abilities of Ms. Brundage can definitely be seen in this book. She takes her readers on one couple’s dark and dangerous journey into a life of uncertainty. The most compelling thing about this novel is how real it could be. In a time when anti-abortion activist are bombing clinics, a book of this nature is a very real wake up call. The Doctor’s Wife really makes you look at others with a different outlook because what may seem to you as a normal life may not be as it seems.

Each character in this book added to the depth of this story. Ms. Brundage guides you through the daily routine of the four characters and takes you on the journey of what led up to the day Michael is kidnapped. The outcome of this event will leave readers in awe of the way this author wrapped up this story completely. This is a very thought provoking suspense that will have readers wanting more from Elizabeth Brundage!
