World Gates - Shadow Prince

Nord D'Rae may have been destroyed, but Angie and Reynart’s journey is far from over.

The images and people of Nord D’Rae still haunt Angie Blanchard, yet her doctors insist that the world she so vividly remembers does not exist. Ten years later and the brutal world that inspired both fear and passion still colors her world. Did she awaken from her coma only to slowly lose what is left of her sanity? When she finds herself back in Reynart’s realm, she is forced to confront the knowledge that her “dreams” and danger surrounding them is in fact real.

In the aftermath of his kingdom’s destruction, Reynart has become an assassin. He inspires fear wherever he goes. He burns with the knowledge that he was deceived by Angie, and given the opportunity, he will make her pay for her role in destroying his world. However, his retribution will have to wait when the fabric of magic that holds the gateways of his world together is threatened. The Council of Mages believes that Angie and Reynart are the only people capable of effectively stabilizing the gates. Can these two find a way to overcome the misconceptions and deceit of the past to save the present from a force that is even stronger than the danger they confronted before?

This is the second book in the World Gates series and continues the story of Reynart and Angie from World Gates - Not Quite Camelot. For fans that have not had an opportunity to read the first book, Ms. Dunne has written World Gates - Shadow Prince so well that you will be able to effortlessly follow the events of the past and keep pace with their mission in the present.

World Gates – Shadow Prince takes readers to a vivid other world that is rich with magic. Jennifer Dunne handles the transition between worlds wonderfully and enhances the story with convincing descriptions and believable characters. The pacing of the plot compliments the characters’ development and the evolving storyline. The magical elements of the book are well done; there is stark contrast between the dark foreboding of the magic that stalks them and the warmth that infuses the magic surrounding Angie. Readers will find themselves seamlessly drawn into the quest to restore the gates. The unknown quantity of what will happen contributes to the mounting tension as the evil that conspired against Reynart ten years ago returns. Angie and Reynart are a well-matched heroine and hero. They are strong-willed, courageous, and compassionate, but both have reason to doubt the people around them. The author shows their growth and the subsequent trust that develops between them wonderfully. Ms. Dunne does not rush the evolution of their relationship and therefore makes their commitment and emotions that much more believable. The ending is emotional and ensures that this is a romance not to be missed.
